These beef bones are the same ones we use to make our beef bone broth. If you’re going to make your own broth at home, don’t forget these two important steps:
1. blanch the bones first: place the bones into a large pot, cover with cold water, bring to the boil over high heat and simmer for 20 minutes before draining and rinsing the bones in water
2. Roast the bones: this browns and caramelizes them for more flavor. Turn your oven to 450˚F or 232˚C, and bake until they look “too done”. Once you’re ready to boil the bones, don’t waste the crisped brown bits on the bottom of the pan; loosen them with a little water and add those to your stockpot. This adds flavor to the finished broth.
